When quilting do you have to embroider it or can you just leave it with stiched ditches?

Hi everyone,

So, I am currently making a memory blanket. I’ve finished stitching in all the ditches of it, but now I'm wondering do I need to do some kind of embroidery inside my squares or can I leave them with no embroidery patterns and just have them as just squares with no stitching inside of them at all?

I need to know as soon as possible as I am making it for a friend of mine for Christmas. I’ve used old baby gowns with motives some with iron on motives and some are stitched into the clothing itself and some are embroidered. I know I cannot sew through iron-on’s, so, is it worth just leaving the embroidery part and d sticking to what I have done already?

Hi Jodi,

Personally I would leave it as is. There is such a thing as too much stitches. Adding embroidery to the blocks could distract from the beauty of what is already there.
