When Backing Is Not Quite Wide Enough

by Bunny
(Texas)

I have just finished a baby quilt to that measures 50X50.

The backing fabric is 2-3 inches short.

What is the best way to compensate?

Should I just get wider fabric? Where could I get wider fabric?

Although, the backing fabric was purchased for this quilt.

I would like to use it if I can.

Short backing

I wonder if you have enough trim material that you could sew it around you backing and then fold it to the front to stitch down for your border.

My grandma used heavy material sheets/materials on the back of her bed quilts and always folded the excess edges to the front and stitched them down for the trim. Just an idea.

Backing Borders
by: Rebecca

Hi,

I've had this happen to me personally.

What I chose to do was add borders to my backing in order to make it big enough for the project.

I wonder if anyone else has some suggestions.

Happy quilting,

Rebecca
