Quilting With Crochet Cotton Lace

by Rhonna

I watched a video on using lace on a quilt. I have scrap pieces of cotton crochet lace that I thought I would use. Then I discovered a bag full of crochet furniture covers I can’t seem to throw away.

Now, the furniture covers have been washed (very old) and I can put them on a quilt square with no worries. But the new crochet white lace, now that’s a question for experts.

So, my question is can I put the lace directly onto a quilt square without washing it first? Do I need to use a stabilizer? Will it shrink and distort the fabric since it will be sewn flat, and not allowed to hang from one side?

I don’t sew with lace on anything, so not really sure how to go about this. Obviously, quilts will be washed over and over. So, any advice or tricks?
