I have 2 old quilts from my grandmother that are 80+ years old.


I would like to repurpose them to pass along to my daughters.

They are in decent shape but instead of batting they are filled with old pieces of clothing.

I have never quilted but I can sew.

I want to save them!

They are the only thing I have of my grandmothers.

I helped a friend re-do a quilt that her grandmother had made.

In it was filled with black horsehair.

The cover was not salvageable and had to be discarded.

We washed and rinsed the horsehair in a kiddie pool till it was clean.

Stuffed old white sheets with it.

Made a new cover and tied instead of quilting it.

I appliqued the top with hearts.

She really enjoyed working on it and is very happy to have it.

Go to it, ask a friend to help for a little more experience.

You can re-use the clothes.

Maybe add more or make it smaller, just take it a step at a time and enjoy the memories of your Grandmother.
