Easy and Cuddly Mother-In-Law Quilt
Have you ever found yourself in a position to come up with a last minute gift for your mother in-law?
That’s where I was last week before Christmas, some place between being a good daughter in-law and inconsiderate.
I desperately searched my fabric bins to see if I could come up with some wonderful idea of what I could make.
As I was rummaging through my forlorn glorious bits, my husband asked me what I was doing.
I told him that in all the holiday excitement I forgot to get something for his mom. That’s when he reminded me that his mother was always cold when she came to visit and that the perfect gift would be functional rather than decorative.
Looking around I found the perfect materials. They were some leftover grey fleece and some black minky fabric.
I measured both of them and they each turned out to be 2 yards long.
The thought that rang in my head was, “Perfect! Colors that will go with anything and together these will be very warm.”
My husband’s mother tends to rearrange and decorate often, so the fact that these colors will literally go with everything was an added bonus.
I decided to quilt these fabrics together so that they would make a cuddly twin size throw.
As it turns out the project was a complete success. It’s perfectly cuddly soft and can be used as a decorative throw over the back of a sofa.
The task only took a few hours to complete, since it was a simple straight-line stitch that did most of the work. Then just a whip stitch to finish it up.
The hardest part of the whole thing was trimming the lovely minky fabric. That stuff just likes to go everywhere.
Nothing that a vacuum cleaner couldn’t fix. ;)
