What size needle is best for machine quilting?

And what is best quilting thread?

Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to needles and treads for quilting.

Personally I prefer using 90/14 quilting needle for the actual quilting and 80/12 Microtex for piecing. (Depending on the fabric being used.)

I like the brand Schmetz because of the quality for the price. Cheaper brands break easily and make the work much harder.

When it comes to quilting thread, my tried and true is Gutermann brand. I've tried others in the pans and none of them held up over time. Meanwhile, the quilts that I made over 20 years ago with the Gutermann tread are still perfectly quilted.
