Adjust the size if needed.  This typically makes an 8 x 8” block.

We are going to use this image as an applique.  Assemble one block to make wall hanging art.  Put together several for a lap quilt.

If you need further assistance than what is given here feel free to contact us.

The Steps

  • Trace the design onto fusible adhesive.

We recommend Heat n Bond because of its low cost and ease of use.  Remember to use ultra-hold if there will be no stitching the applique down.  Use lite hold for when you want the finished quilt to be machine washable.  This requires the pieces to be stitched into place.

  • Cut the pieces in-between the lines.
  • Select which fabrics go with which pieces.

Keep iron on medium heat when pressing.

  • Iron press pieces onto the back of desired fabrics.
  • Now cut fabric on the lines of the designs that were traced.
  • Find ideal placement for the applique pieces on the background fabric.
  • Peel off paper from the fusible and iron press applique into place.
  • When all the pieces are pressed in the correct places, sew them into place with a tight zigzag stitch around the edges.
  • Assemble as many blocks as planned.
  • Complete top.
  • Make quilting cookie (top, batting, backing).
  • Quilt around appliqued pieces to make them stand out.
  • Bind edges.
  • Label finished quilt.

Now your project is complete.
